A safe work method statement (SWMS) is a document that identifies hazards, and the measures to be put in place to control the risks associated with those hazards.
Under the Work Health and Safety Act, a principal contractor (inluding owner builders) must ensure that site specific safe work method statements (SWMS’s) are in place for all high risk work regardless of the cost of the project.
It is legally required for all high risk work.
